Solar - 1 Win 1 to Go

  • 14-6-2011

The power of the people ruled recently with the efforts customers and industry members alike made to get the retrospective solar 60 to 40 cent feed-in-tariff reduction scrapped.  The NSW Solar industry however is still in the doldrums waiting for a decision to be made on an ongoing feed-in-tariff which will determine the future of the solar industry in this state.  "This is killing the industry as we cannot tell our customers what will be available if they install a system. Lots of people want to go ahead with solar energy." said Steven Doyle owner of Bellingen Solar.  “The ACT recently closed their gross feed in tariff and introduced a net 1 for 1 tariff at the same time. We have been urging the NSW Government to do the same. I would ask those who have had their rebate retained to now continue the fight for renewable energy in this state and for those who would like to install solar today." Mr Doyle added.

Yesterday was the date for the long awaited Solar Summit when Mr O'Farrell's government representative, Energy Minister Chris Hartcher met with solar industry heads including the Clean Energy Council's Chief Executive, Matthew Warren.

Mr Warren was the first speaker and outlined the two key points as being 1) clarifying the status of applications submitted before the suspension of the Solar Bonus Scheme on midnight April 28th 2011 and 2) clarifying the situation regarding new solar customers and what tariff rate is available to them.  No outcomes were made.

We ask that our existing customers and supporters of the solar industry to please once again contact the following people and demand as a minimum a 1:1 feed-in-tariff be instated in NSW in all haste otherwise the future of renewable energy in NSW and indeed Australia is looking very grim indeed.
